I had never heard of tripe before and was quite unable to eat it! Doreen Moss (front row, second from the right) pictured with her school friends in Derbyshire. Our house was right across the road from Southend Airport, where Spitfires were taking off and landing, so Mum and Dad didn’t get much sleep during the war! ’ When Jim returned home, he found it very difficult.
