At least one LEA insists that letters of application for headship should be handwritten, but most job details will not include an injunction either way. Personally I find that even neat handwriting is not necessarily very easy to read. I think that most selection committees will accept a letter that has been either neatly handwritten (in black, for easy photocopying) or typed/word-processed. Two points that may be worth making are that a word-processed letter can look awful if it is not set out neatly and that spelling mistakes are less easily disguised.
The basic information is still the same and there is no need yet to shorten it to make room for other information. Examination grades would still be expected and, of course, it will be noticed that the anticipated PGCE is now a reality. The second page has undergone considerable change.
